Sebastien rode across the parade square of the South Cavalry barracks looking with pride at his Cuirassiers as they cared for their horses after the morning’s exercises. Although the trumpeters had called the men to lunch, he knew none of them would go until the horses were all taken care of!
He was brought out of his reverie seeing a familiar face leaving the office of the Queen's Own Horse. “Raymond, mon frère. Catch the reins for me for a moment as I have a little job to do.”
With that, and without waiting for any more of a response from the younger man than a smile, for he knew that he could trust his friend with his life, he entered the door that Raymond had just left. Checking his uniform as he walked, he marched through the offices until he saw the back of a man vociferously overseeing the movement of furniture. Drawing his sword he approached the man and drew near.
Coming smartly to attention he saluted. “Mon Colonel, mon ami. It is time!”

Pascal fumed at the slow progress being made, whilst he did not have the written orders to that effect everyone understood he was to be the new Colonel of the Queens Own Horse and as such he was taking the opportunity to try and sort his new office out with some new furniture.
To his rear he heard the marching sound off boots, an officer of the CPC he would surmise from the clink of their distinctive spurs. He then heard the unmistakable sound of a Sabre being drawn, "I'm glad I recognized the spurs!" he thought to himself.
Then he heard the familiar voice of his friend Sebastien Chabal.
"Mon Colonel, mon ami. It is time!"
Pascal turned and returned the salute
"About time to, I didn't leave you with that much to do with the Cuirassiers! Well enough of that."
Pascal turned to a desk in his outer office and taking nib and parchment scrawled an address which he handed to Sebastien.
"Here is the address of my tailor who has a new design of uniform for the Regiment, go see him and get yours ordered before the rush starts. Then familiarise yourself with this, it is the manual of manoeuvres and formations of the Queens Own Horse and is horribly out of date. Once you have studied it we will begin updating it. Remember my friend that the QOH is not Heavy cavalry but Guard so we will have to take that into account. For the moment the Third Squadron will be yours and there is a new Captain I want you take under your wing, a Sebastian Adis. He shows great promise and you can use the help as there is a mountain of work to do as you can see." Pascal paused for breath just as a workman scraped his desk against a door frame,
The Irascible new Colonel of the QOH started to launch a verbal tirade at the poor peasant but paused long enough to turn back to his friend.
"Oh and welcome to the Queen Own Horse my friend, it is good to have you"

"Thank you, I look forward to meeting Captain Adis. I assume Rèmy is to join us too this month? Excellent!"
With that he took the manual and tailors address from his new Colonel's hands and replaced them with a bottle of brandy that he took from his jacket. The bottle seemed bear the mark of the quartermaster of the Royal Horse Guards. "Errm, a present from our friends in the North barracks. I know a young lady who's brother works up there. But I'm sure their Colonel would have got round at some point to sending you a bottle himself, just maybe not such a good year."
With that he turned and left.
"The taylors and then the shylocks this afternoon. But first I must take care of my horse and tell my men I am leaving."
